An Example
This is a photograph I took in 2025 on a hike in Yosemite National Park. My idea was to use this photograph while combining it with a photograph I took on the same trip of Half Dome.
This is the photograph I took of Half Dome. It is such an iconic element of Yosemite that I wanted to include it in the final image. And showing the valley below, it would add the sense of height to the image which was part of the vision I wanted to create.
Using Photoshop, I created this new composite made from areas within both photographs. Note that I positioned the figure to the left, so that there would be space on the right for the Half Dome addition. This composite would be the rough draft for the finished image which I decided would look like a painting.
Having created a rough draft, I then used it as an image prompt in an AI program, along with text that described what I wanted in the final image. I use various AI programs depending on their strengths in achieving the image I have in mind. I instructed the program to add a Bald Eagle in flight, which it did. But it placed the hiker in the wrong location. Trial and error through repeated iterations is often necessary with such programs. But I was getting close...
Eventually I was able to get the image to what I considered a final image. I had to be flexible in the arrangement of the hiker and the eagle, and then adjust lighting, color, etc. in Adobe Lightroom. From there, I exported the image to a size appropriate for this website and added my signature in the lower right corner.
Hopefully this gives you a sense of the process I use to create each "Generative Image".
